Print guru Frank Romano honoured for 'unmatched' contribution

ProPrint columnist and printing guru Frank Romano will be honoured next month after being named Graphics of the Americas' Man of the Year 2013.

Romano has spent more than 50 years in the industry during which he has authored 53 books, written thousands of articles and lectured extensively.

He has also earned the title of Professor Emeritus in the School of Print Media at the Rochester Institute of Technology and assumed the presidency of the Museum of Printing in Massachusetts.

Graphics of the Americas president George Ryan described Romano as "a hero of print technology progress".

"Frank's positive yet straightforward analysis and opinion on our industry, always delivered with warmth and humour, has been instrumental to hundreds, if not thousands," he said.

Romano will receive his Man of the Year award at a ceremony in Orlando on 21 February.

Meanwhile, Romano was given a surprise gift in November when he paid a visit to the Massachusetts studio of acclaimed artist-publisher Tom Zotos.

Zotos presented him with an original artwork that highlighted his decades of teaching, leadership and innovation.

"Few icons are as visible, cherished and valuable to their industries as Frank Romano is to the printing community," said Zotos.

"Not only is his wealth of knowledge and understanding unmatched, but his willingness to teach and promote print technologies and applications has been appreciated by generations around the world."
