Digital printer cashes in on film and TV contacts with Big Brother deal

Central Imaging Technologies has capitalised on its film industry connections by winning the contract to fit out the Big Brother house.

The Gold Coast-based firm installed all the graphical decorations in the house, said managing director Peter Arman. It has produced the material for the past seven seasons of the reality TV show.

This time, work included customised wallpaper, billboard skins, door prints, sponsor boards, banners, backlits and a life-sized Ryan Gosling standee, Arman told ProPrint.

The four-person outfit also created all the PVC panels for the Big Brother Experience at Dreamworld, he added.

Arman said he got a phone call earlier this year offering him the job after the Nine Network decided to revive the show after a four-year break.

"[Big Brother] wouldn't use anyone else. The art director there also uses me for all his other projects," said Arman.

"We've done movies – we did Peter Pan a few years back. We did Cricket Superstar before Big Brother. Whenever a show pops up, and he's involved, he rings us and we do it. Most of the time, they don't ask for quotes."

Arman told ProPrint that it had taken three months to prepare the house, with the kitchen wallpapering alone taking a week for two staff to complete.

Since the show started on 12 August, Central Imaging has also been doing two or three jobs a week to keep the house fresh, he added.

He said staff had sometimes been sneaking into the backyard at 3am to work while the housemates were asleep.

One of the on-demand jobs was the Gosling standee, which was delivered within half a day and used in the show, said Arman.
