Queensland Government printer celebrates 150 years with party and display

Queensland Government printer Goprint has celebrated its 150th anniversary with a party and a visit from the minister.

Government Services Minister Simon Finn spoke at the February 17 event, which was also attended by some former long-term staff and customers.

Goprint acting general manager Scott Albury told ProPrint the evening included a display of printed material from the late 19th century to today. Guests were also able to inspect a hand press and an old lino-type machine.

Albury said Goprint's main business continued to be the parliamentary work it was set up in 1862 to do – bills, acts, legislation, Hansard and tabled documents. The 60-person operation also does annual reports and brochures, he added.

Albury described the sector as "very competitive", because while Goprint is only allowed to do government work, private printers are allowed to tender for government contracts.

Goprint's main press is a six-colour KBA Repeater 105, Albury said. Goprint also has a Heidelberg Speedmaster 102 and three digital machines – one colour and two black-and-whites.
