SOS drives 40 million pages per month though Kodak Prosper

5 Dec 2011 |  Nolan Giles   |   Comment Now

Kodak has a lot riding on its Prosper platform, so the huge volumes being pumped out of the inkjet web machine at SOS Print & Media must be good news.

The Sydney-based printer has reported keeping "millions of impressions per month" onshore after taking a "leap of faith" with Australia's first Kodak Prosper 1000 press last year.

Kodak's financial troubles have been in sharp focus this year after market fears about its corporate on the back of continued poor results.

SOS director Michael Schulz told ProPrint that he believes Kodak is recovering from a rough year, and agreed its inkjet developments were key to future success.

"When their stock sank we were sweating," he said.

"But if you look at the agreements that they have with manufacturers, it looks like they are going to be OK and inkjet is a major factor in that. People out there understand that [Prosper] is one of the best technologies in that sector, if not the best."

Schulz added that SOS's Prosper 1000 press has been used to produce black-and-white books for publishing clients.

“We are pushing through up to 40 million impressions on the Kodak Prosper 1000 press each month," he said.

"The Kodak Prosper 1000 press recently enabled us to retain a large account, millions of impressions per month, which was under threat of going offshore."

SOS installed the machine in November last year, and Schulz said that after a few initial teething issues, he has been impressed with its speed, reliability and simplicity.
