Print's power players see out the year at Power 50 function

2 Dec 2011 |  Steven Kiernan   |   Comment Now
Heavy hitters from the printing industry descended on a five-star hotel in Sydney last night for the official revealing of the 2011 ProPrint Power 50.

PMP chief executive Richard Allely was crowned this year's #1 after steering the country's largest print group through difficult waters.

He toppled last year's #1, IPMG executive chairman Michael Hannan, who was named #2 on the 2011 ProPrint Power 50.

At a well-attended drinks function at the Sheraton on the Park, plenty of Power 50 people and shortlisted nominees mingled with sponsors and the ProPrint team.

ProPrint editor Steven Kiernan gave a short speech, saying: "I am proud of the fact that we, as ProPrint, can bring people of such calibre together in the same room and I hope we continue to serve the industry as an essential business companion in the years to come."

Digitalpress managing director Theo Pettaras, who rose from #47 to #40 in the rankings, said he "loved the concept" and called it "a great initiative".

"It’s such a positive way to bring like-minded industry folks together. It was great to catch up with my peers both friendly competitors and valued suppliers.

"The night was a huge success and great to see industry bodies such as GASAA and PIAA enjoying a drink together," said Pettaras.

Kwik Kopy managing director David Bell, who was a new entry this year at #30, said he enjoyed the evening, adding: "I will work harder next year to climb the ladder. Have to be ahead of Snap!"

Bruce Peddlesden, who made one of the biggest rises through the rankings to be placed #7, said: "A great night was had by all, and it was good to be able to catch up with other industry players. There are too few places and times for this.

"I have to admit that I was shocked to be elevated into 'the top 10', but it does wonders for the ego," added Peddlesden.

Look out for the December issue of ProPrint, due out next week, which includes the entire Power 50 list, with write-ups and photos of everyone named on the list.
