HP launches "world's biggest colour digital press"

The 42 inch-wide (106cm) press runs at 183 metres per minute, equivalent to 5,200 full colour A4 pages per minute. HP said this volume was 44% faster than the machine's closest competitor.

HP Graphics Solutions Business senior vice president Christopher Morgan said HP's digital colour presses are "changing the business dynamics of applications such as publishing, transpromo and direct mail".

“With the significant throughput capacity the new HP T400 offers, customers can now break into a world of true mass personalisation and customisation and take advantage of substantial new growth opportunities.”

The machine was launched at an open house at US print and publishing company O'Neil Data Systems, which is the first customer to invest in T400.

The LA-based company already owns each of the inkjet web press models – the T200, T300 and T350. It will be using the T400 in conjunction with HP's Exstream software to produce a weekly financial publication.

Local shipping details are unknown.

Last month, PMP's book arm, Griffin Press, invested the first T350 in Australia. The first T300 in Asia was recently installed at Hong Kong-based book printer CTPS.
