Inks giant Flint Group expects to increases prices across its products in Australia in the second half of 2010 due to rising costs of raw materials.

The company revealed to ProPrint that specific varnishes and adhesive products will see price hikes of 4-8%, depending on the product, in the next few months.

Flint ANZ Group managing director Brent Stephen said these price increases were related to a 20% increases in key raw material costs.

"Price increases on other products will be announced over the coming months, however, the amount will vary dependent on the impact of the cost increases," he said.

Flint Group sources raw materials from around the world and so prices are often affected by exchange volatility, reduced capacity of suppliers and the impact of climate on crops that produce certain materials.

"The ANZ market has benefited from the weakness of the US dollar and euro, however we are forecasting increased cost of materials in the second half of 2010," added Stephen.

Flint Group increased its prices in the ANZ region in 2009 due to raw material costs increases.

Flint's actions in the ANZ region follow on from a series of prices increases in Europe.

Earlier this month, Flint Group in Europe announced that it would increase the cost of its packaging inks 6-7% as of 15 July as a result of rising raw material costs.

At the start of June, Flint also said it would increase the price of its heatset, coldset, sheetfed inks and pressroom consumables in Europe as of 1 July.
