PMP donates $100,000 to youth charity

PMP donated $100,000 to a youth charity at a celebrity-packed golf day that hosted the likes of rugby union great David Campese and surf champion Layne Beachley.

The inaugural golf day, which was held at Sydney's Lakes Golf Club, raised money for Father Chris Riley's Youth Off The Streets charity, a community organisation working for young people who are chronically homeless, drug dependent and recovering from abuse.

Among the 22 celebrity golfers were former test cricketer Doug Walters, AFL legend Tony Shaw, TV presenter Kerri-Anne Kennerley, and businessman and NRL identity Peter Holmes à Court.

PMP chief executive Richard Allely said: "As an employer of more than 3,000 people across Australia and New Zealand, we are proud to support the local communities we operate in and hope the donation will assist Father Riley and his team continue its amazing work."

Allely said PMP intended to make the golf day and annual event.

"We chose golf because it enabled us to engage customers, suppliers and employees with one event that could raise a significant amount of money for the charity," he said.

Father Riley said he was star struck at the event. "Sitting next to Collingwood legend Tony Shaw was fantastic and I was later able to introduce him to my two Great Danes named 'Collingwood' and 'Magpie'," he said.

Other celebrities golfing on the day were former test cricketer Michael Bevan, Commonwealth Games silver medallist Melinda Gainsford Taylor, and former rugby league stars Billy Moore, Brad Clyde and Jason Taylor.

Father Riled founded Youth Off The Streets in 1991 after he witnessed hundreds of homeless youth living on the streets of Kings Cross during the late 1980s.

The charity operates a food van service from Don Bosco House in Marrickville that feeds the homeless in Kings Cross 365 days a year.

PMP gives back to the communities of its 3,000 members of staff across Australia and New Zealand through its commitment to the community programme.
