Starleaton Digital Solutions is expanding its Melbourne business by moving to a bigger premises and adding two new faces to its wide-format team.

Director Gary Smith (pictured) told ProPrint that the digital kit and materials supplier had moved from Abbotsford to a larger site in Port Melbourne to help grow its stock offering.

"Like any move, we needed more space. Having moved into rigid board supply recently, it was simply a case of needing more warehouse space," he said.

"The main idea of the business we're involved in is on-demand supply. Our customers don't really carry stock, so we have to carry it for them. If a customer picks up the phone and says 'I need 100 of these in two hours' and we say 'yes', the job's ours. But if we say 'no', that customer has no choice but to call someone else."

"We believe in carrying stock on the shelves so we can supply our customers quickly, and most of our deliveries now are done within four hours," he added.

Smith said that the new site also had a "lovely new showroom", and that being in Port Melbourne brought the business closer to its customers and the city's arterial freeway system.

The expansion has also included the appointment of Darren Roe as Victorian branch sales manager and Trevor Klei as a technical sales specialist.

Smith said Roe - who has worked at companies such as Edward Keller, Currie Group, CPI Graphics and Anitech - will be charged with "driving our business growth in Melbourne".

Roe comes to the role from the Halifax Vogel Group. Since 2008, he has also been a committee member of the Screen printing and Graphic Imaging Association of Australia (SGIAA).

Klei joins Starleaton from iMedia, prior to which he served a 20-year stint at Anitech.
