Brisbane-based mail and digital printing company SmartComm has described its deployment of a Fuji Xerox FX495 continuous feed duplex printer as a “key factor” in the company's rapid growth over 2009.

Based in the suburb of Tingalpa, SmartComm reported a 300% increase in turnover for 2009, as well as securing what it called "a major client" with its installation of the first FX495 in Australia in March 2008.

SmartComm director Rod Peirce said: "The new client was looking for a print provider that could handle a variety of complex printing requirements for various types of collateral, from labels and subscriptions notices to direct mail, while delivering high quality and quick turnaround print jobs. The FX495 gave us the competitive edge as it is the only continuous feed printer on the market that offers duplex printing and flash fusion technology to print on multiple substrates."

"With the FX495, we can print a much wider range of collateral for clients, including brochures, direct mail, bills, lottery tickets, and labels," he added..

Peirce said that the company was currently planning to purchase a second FX495 later in the year to further boost capacity.

"Our goal is to continue to grow our business at a 10 to 20 per cent per year and build market awareness while encouraging  our customers to think more innovatively and laterally about how we can meet their demands for effective and cost efficient print and mail services," he said.

The company is something of an early adopter in the digital arena, having already installed the first DocuColor 250 Digital Colour Printer/Copier and Nuvera 120 EA machines in Australia.

The company has a staff headcount of 35, and comprises digital laser, inkjet, VDP and on-demand printing capabilities.
