Geon Group, CanPrint Communications and Rothfield Print & Image Management are three of the big winners in the federal government's new print procurement initiative.

The strategy covers procurement across 12 government agencies, dividing work into four categories: Print Management Services; Creative and Design Services; Warehousing and Distribution Services; and Printing and Production Services.

Geon and CanPrint, which is a subsidiary of Opus Print Group, have been named as suppliers in both the Printing & Production category and the Warehousing section.

Rothfield Print & Image is on the approved supplier list for Warehousing, and Print Management (PM), making it the only PM supplier to also appear in another category.

The other print management suppliers are Ergo Asia, Foxprint Solutions and Stream Solutions.

There are 78 suppliers listed in the Print & Production category, seven in Warehousing and Distribution Services, 70 in Creative and Design Services, and the four print managers.

The Federal government unveiled the print procurement strategy late last year. It is estimated to be worth a total of $220m over the five years of the arrangement.

When it was announced, Printing Industries said the new approach would be good for SMEs as well as big business.

Printing Industries chief executive Philip Andersen told ProPrint: "It gives SMEs access to government work; it's not tied exclusively to large-scale print managers."

Human Services minister Chris Bowen (pictured) said: "This five-year plan streamlines the way government engages with the Australian printing industry, reducing the administrative burden on both government and industry."
