Xerox has used the Ipex Media Summit in London to hint at its entry into the inkjet market.

The toner technology powerhouse also said that Ipex 2010 would represent an "evolution not a revolution" in its push to take prime position in continuous feed digital.

Eric Armour, president of Global Business Solutions, said: "Xerox has never been a single technology company. We participate in virtually every area of the market.

"We now have a very strong portfolio in continuous feed mono and are growing in continuous feed colour," added Armour.

He said that the company would be sharing news on its inkjet strategy at Ipex 2010, "to round out our technology".

Armour would not be drawn on whether the inkjet announcement would be the latest development in the "gel ink" technology announced at Drupa 2008.

"The strategy behind adding inkjet to the Xerox portfolio is comparable to how automobile manufacturers offer cars powered by gas, diesel or electricity - each meets a different performance standard," he said.

"We delivered breakthrough toner-based colour continuous feed solutions allowing new levels of cost, image quality and speed for transpromotional applications. Our new offering will meet similar requirements for those looking for an inkjet option," added Armour.

Xerox's Ipex plans also include enhancements to its mono toner-based Xerox 650/1300 continuous feed printing systems, including compatibility with heavier media, running duplex applications up to 200gsm.
