Lawrence (pictured), a veteran of the print and paper industry, has been announced as the guest speaker at an upcoming dinner event for the Lithographic Institute of Australia (LIA).
In an interview for ProPrint's February issue, due out this week, Lawrence claimed print's reduction in its eco footprint put it ahead of many other industries, such as the automotive sector.
"The difference between the latest Heidelberg or manroland press and those of five years ago, there is something like a 40-50% reduction in electricity usage alone," he said.
"In the same timeframe, the automotive industry has managed an average reduction of about 8% in fuel use."
Lawrence also rallied against the idea that other forms of communication are "cleaner" than print.
"I'll go so far as to say that print is probably 95% less damaging to the environment compared with its nearest mass media competitor," he added.
