Lumoza is a joint venture involving Artist Screen, Hasselt University and IMEC, which is developing electroluminescent displays that print control electronics and light-emitting ink to produce animated displays. The print can be applied to rigid or flexible substrates, including vinyl and other plastics, and can be folded, bent or wrapped.
"The core business is producing and developing functional inks," said Lumoza chief executive Wouter Moons. "This is an umbrella name for all printable liquids that can either be conductive, semi-conductive or isolating. The result is that we can make some devices like in traditional electronics that emit light, and we can make proximity sensors, RFID tags and solar cells."
Light emitting inks are the first product that the firm is bringing to market, while it continues research into other applications. The first products are thin and flexible lights that can be printed onto all sorts of materials including PVC.
Lumoza is also negotiating with press manufacturer KBA on a custom-built sheetfed offset press to be used for producing its printed electronics.
