Federal government unveils $220m print procurement strategy

The Rudd Government has announced a $220m print procurement program to streamline the tender process for 12 government agencies.

The Design, Production and Distribution Tender announced this afternoon will enable agencies such as Medicare and the Australian Bureau of Statistics to access printing services from 176 approved suppliers.

Human Services minister Chris Bowen (pictured) said in a statement: "This five-year plan streamlines the way government engages with the Australian printing industry, reducing the administrative burden on both government and industry."

"It will save millions of dollars and many hours of paperwork through reduced administrative costs and less red tape for businesses," he added.

Centrelink, one of the agencies covered by the tender, was chosen to lead the consultation process, as a major user of print services.

The Design, Production and Distribution Tender encompasses print management, creative and design services, printing and production, and warehousing and distribution.
