ProPrint will put Asia Pulp and Paper (APP) in the hotseat tonight in a live and interactive global webcast.

UPDATE: The full unedited interview is now available online and on demand here: http://www.viostream.com/proprint

Aida Greenbury, APP director of sustainability and stakeholder engagement, will respond to questions from Steve Crowe, editor of ProPrint.

Greenbury (pictured) said the decision to do the live interview was based on the company's "ongoing effort to update and engage stakeholders on the sustainability of our operations, and to provide a transparent opportunity for them to ask questions and address concerns".

"The more access customers have to what's really happening at APP, the fewer the misunderstandings," she said.

APP has faced criticism over its environmental impact for a number of years, although it has repeatedly denied the allegations, and recently a number of its sites have become certified with Lembaga Ekolabel Indonesia (LEI) Chain of Custody and PEFC.

The webcast is a live online seminar that will be streamed over the internet tonight. It can be viewed in Sydney at 7pm AEDT, London at 8am, and Hong Kong and Singapore at 4pm.

A cross-section of people from the industry have been invited to each location.

Registered users will have the opportunity to submit questions during the live webcast.

Seems to be a common theme - neither did I!

I got some verification email, but as soon as i saw the APP logo i realised it was a managed piece of PR fluff that ProPrint seems to specialise in.... except to have a peek at the lovely Aida, why bother?

Inky, notwithstanding that we always allow you to criticise our work (on our website) whilst remaining anonymous, I take issue with your last comment. If you had bothered to watch the webcast, you would have seen that it was a legitimate, no-holds-barred interview. This was something we worked very hard on, to ensure it was a genuine insight into APP and its practices. I suggest that next time you want to review some of our content, you actually bother to consume it.

As my son would say: oh, snap!

Thanks Dan, actually I couldn’t help myself and watched it this morning. Btw, your hair is looking great, maybe Steve Crowe can gel up next time too. My concern was that the appearance of the APP logo gives the impression of it being a collaborative thing – as members of our industry’s 4th Estate, I think you should appear unbiased at all times. That said, it was pretty good – I won’t agree it was no holds barred though. Phil Lawrence (surely the smartest man in our industry) asked a couple of good questions, but I think the most insightful point was the response to an online question regarding APP taking legal action against the NGO’s that have made claims about APP’s environmental business practices – an open door policy and willingness to discuss these claims won’t assuage concerns by myself or environmentally informed end users that APP has a reluctance to provide full and frank disclosure of its activites (or that of it’s parent company Sinar Mas). I also thought blaming FSC for slowing economic development because of it’s disengagement is outrageous in the extreme – and is a poorly thought out response to an issue APP brought on themselves. That said, MS Greenbury came off in a positive light – I can’t think of many tougher jobs in the paper game at the moment than trying to spin good news about APP’s environmental performance. Next time can I suggest get Phil Lawrence on there – he has so many good things to say, and is someone who speaks with the utmost authority on the environmental impacts of paper and print, especially as it relates to carbon, and with the possiblity of a carbon tax being imposed on us all in the coming years – we need to stay abreast of the possible impacts. If you can’t do that I suggest a cage fight between representatives of Stream and Bluestar.

Can't be bothered with the gel Inky. Dan uses it because he's still young and pretty. How about sending us a pic of your wisps?

Touche Steve - been a while since and fancy product touched this hair as well. While your here, how about Phil Lawrence for your next webcast - what he doesnt know about print and paper as it relates to the environment isnt worth knowing.... just a thought

Watch this space Inky. We found the webcast a great experience and want to pursue more of them. Yes, Phillip Lawrence is a walking encyclopaedia of environment info, and we'll try to persuade him to share it with us.

Just curious…did APP contribute financially to this webcast at all; either by way of a placement fee or picking up any associated costs?

Just watched the interview too, whatever you can say about APP that Aida certainly seems on top of things. Not just a pretty face, eh Inky?

I agree Converser - she handled things very well, in what would be one of the toughest jobs in the paper industry.
