The Canadian print giant has not released an official statement on the issue but it has been widely reported that the company has increased its offer for rival print behemoth Quebecor.
If the reports are correct, it would suggest that RR Donnelley's initial bid last month was rejected by the company.
Should the deal go ahead, it will represent the largest merger in printing history.
