Canon seeks to impress with imagePress

28 May 2009 |  Daniel Fitzgerald   |   Comment Now

Canon Australia has undertaken a “redesign of its PPS [production printing systems] strategy” which will see it making a stronger move into the commercial print space, according to the company's senior general manager of marketing, Craig Manson.

Manson made the claim during a private media tour of the Canon stand at PacPrint 09, which appears to support his claim by featuring a designated commercial print 'zone'.

The company has expanded its imagePRESS range from four models to eight this year, with the 1110-lite, 1110, 1125 and 1135 black and white devices making their local debut on the stand. Canon Australia managing director Kenji Kobayashi (pictured) cited the imagePRESS debuts in particular as one of the reasons it was "a very special day".

Manson also said the imagePRESS C1+ was "getting a lot of attention", adding the claim that the press "is going to open up whole new markets for the printing industry".

The 'plus' represents the model's use of a clear toner, which apart from adding extra aesthetic capabilities also has the potential for security applications, such as the printing of certificates and tickets or, as PPS product manager Peter Britliff points out, "anything that a company doesn't want copied and used".

The C1+ is also one of three presses on the Canon stand with ISO certification, with the imagePRESS 6000VP and 7000VP also sporting the qualification.

Rounding out the PacPrint launches is Helix, the vendor's workflow and web-to-print solution.
